Louisville Drivers Must Have Auto Insurance

If you’re the owner and operator of a motor vehicle in Louisville, you must have at least the minimum auto insurance required by the state of Kentucky:

• $25,000 for one person for bodily injury damages
• $50,000 for bodily injury damages per accident
• $25,000 for property damage
• Basic reparations benefits for personal injury (aka PIP insurance)

Or

• A policy with a single limit of $60,000

The state requires this liability insurance to protect you and other drivers in the event of a crash. Be aware that this is the minimum requirement. You are encouraged to carry more liability protection if you are a high net worth individual, if you drive more than most people, or if you have a young driver in your home. This limits the amount of damages that would have to come out of your wallet if you reach your policy cap in a serious accident.
